He kneels down and reties Tyson’s laces with clumsy fingers, painstakingly slow, tongue between his teeth, dragon flying down and under, just like Jordie taught him, even double knotting them for good measure.
He doesn’t know it yet, but with that shoelace, Jamie's tied a knot for life.

Tyler and Jamie have never had to manage a long-distance relationship before and it's hard. Since they'd got together, they'd never spent more than a couple of weeks apart over the summers and even then there had been plenty of distractions. There's only an hour time difference between Dallas and Toronto but it's enough to throw Tyler off.
