Eddie crushed the barista's look, Steve decided. He was spotted in a black crewneck and matching jeans, the maroon apron with his name pin on it somehow accentuated his toned biceps and broad shoulders. He had big button eyes, Steve obsessively noted, they were dark brown like the coffee beans and brightened with recognition at the sight of him.
"Hey," Eddie said, plump lips curved up in a lazy smile. "Mind telling me your secret potion, pretty?"
Steve let out a squeak and felt his cheeks burn terribly.

Summary
The first thing to go is the wallpaper.
The walls are the same as they were when Barbara got taken, that same white and blue checkered pattern he’s followed with his eyes for endless hours after every stint in the Upside Down, after Billy Hargrove and the pack of demodogs and the terrifying nightmare of the underground russian base, and Steve can’t stop himself from shivering in his sweat-soaked pyjamas, tossing the covers to the side as he rolls off the bed. He can feel his heartbeat in his throat, and his vision is blurry around the edges, skin stretched tight over whatever the fuck is brewing inside his body.
His gaze snags on the edge of the wallpaper, the little corner that is folding up under the light switch and Steve—he rips it off. Claws at it with the type of blind fury he’s grown intimate with.
This is what he’s good at.
OR: Steve inherits a house that has never felt like a home. He starts fixing what’s broken, finds help in unlikely places, and somewhere between paint cans and late-night talks, he learns how to build something that lasts.
