Hell, standing half-naked in front of strangers doesn’t even crack his Top Ten Most Embarrassing Moments.

    Dodging bullets in broad daylight, though? Yeah. That definitely wasn’t in the job description.

    DEAF JASON AN SIGN INTEPRETER ROY and specifically a Jason who is just. So so not doing great. So prickly and guarded and also with so much raw feeling and integrity kept safe behind it all. AND ROY. Roy with deaf Lian and so much emotional maturity and STILL struggling. being real and human as hell. being just a guy trying to do his job. Being just a guy trying not to fall for his employer.

    After two attacks Roy confronts dick about hiring him for Jason (angry. Willingly put him in danger. He had a daughter.) and then goes home and calls Ollie. Progress. Talking to his dad!! And also being honest about how horribly good it felt to hold a weapon again. Cravings. Adrenaline. He has some decisions to make.

    Chapter of more sharing trauma, and VULNERABLE THEM BOTH OF THEM. Roy about his time in the military. (Jason puts a hand on his knee.) Jason about how he hurt Tim, and lost the privilege of knowing Damian.

    Jason not being in the library because he wanted to give Roy space. Because he was afraid he’d be mad at him. Still slightly flirting and more then anything, open. raw and scared.

    Roy decided leaving Jason isn’t an option.

    Woken up middle of night. Jason got sent a tape specifically meant to trigger him. Locks door and destroys room. Dick called Roy, who comes over quick as he can. Brings Jason down a little bit, but angers him again when Jason tries to posit that joker dying is the Only way he’ll recover. Sets him off, closes him out.

    Jason ignores Lian the next morning at breakfast, and that makes Roy angry at him. Even understanding Jason’s trauma, that’s his five year old daughter.

    Jason walks right into the trap. (The theater.)

    Roy saves him from the fucked up mannequin theater and they add kissing to the shit they do often now. Reality slams into Roy of “he’s a Wayne and we’re together” and “we’ve been distracting ourselves”

    Jason Todd grew up with a fundamental fear of being seen. Not in the sense of shyness, but in the sense of shame. He supposed, if he wished to contemplate the fear’s origins, he might start where most tragedies do:
    The house he grew up in.
    Where the act of wanting was as good as a death sentence to that desire.
    He supposed he might even make an argument for the statement “people become what they are called”. He thinks that might have some merit, looking back.
    What he fears most, (like most other people), is how obvious it is to others. The fear itself.
    He wonders if they can see it.

    Thanks to a rogue meta, the batfam gets to watch Jason's memories like a movie; and Jason just really wants a family again. But you cannot be loved if you aren't known, and well... if circumstances provide? might as well take the chance, right?

    Jason pov chapter where he doesn’t know how to feel. Realizes for the first time that 9 is real fucking young to learn that your mom has cancer. Talk with Damian who surprises them both by asking Jason to warn him so he doesn’t have to watch Catherine die.

    Dick notices SH scars on older Jason’s forearm. Christmas comes and goes. Willis buys him the same cigarettes he was branded with and lived fearing and died smelling. And also little Jason thinks he’s ugly. Dicks having a hard time reconciling all the versions of Jason he knows.

    Family talks of Bruce being a hypocrite and insisting he wouldn’t have seen Jason any differently if he’d known he already knew how to Hotwire a car. Damian pitching in that he hadn’t disclosed all his league stuff. Dick stepping in and telling Bruce to back tf off. (And also having a minor crisis over how little he knows about his brothers. He was to know about Jason’s sh scars. He want sit know if he was hurt in the same way. (Rape))

    Catherine’s unknown pregnancy and miscarriage. Right after a violent drive-by and Jason’s dad being permanently out of the picture by then. Damian curling up by Jason’s side without really knowing why or how to fix it or how to process. Jason curling an arm around him. “It’s soon, isn’t it.”

    Jason and young Jason alone in a room again. The blameless violence of Catherine’s death, and then her passing. (Different losses, each equally painful and altering.) acknowledgment that worse things to come doesn’t mean that the present wasn’t bad. If there’d been no more, it would have been the worst day of his life. Jason confirming that it was awful. That it was pain. That it WAS violence. The worst kind, because it didn’t leave a mark at all. Or did. Or didn’t.

    Dick and Jason finally have a moment that’s good. Weighty, but good. Face flushed with tears. “Do you remember the moment you knew you were never getting your parents back.” Dick tried so hard
    To say the right thing and maybe he even succeeds a little. “Look at you. You love so much. I’m starting to see who you are. It’s not because you aren’t easy to love. Nobody is.” “You’ll learn worse about me” “I’ll love you anyways” <- the undertone, not the words said

    Happy memory instead of a sad one. Young Jason full of hope. Crime alley hearts beating as one pulse when the public library was announced. Damian saying “the library was your zoo.”

    catherine is gone. jason hiding in the crook of bruce's shoulder. dick and bruce being similar in how young they were to lose their parents, but jason and bruce being the same in that nobody came for them afterwards. bruce can't pull jason out of crime alley because theyre both trapped there.
    catherine is a wound j cant articulate. willis is a scar and sheila is a cough that doesnt leave his lungs. bruce is the scab neother of them can stop picking at, "a little new, and a little archaic all at once. " always itching.

    and it's over. (Tim too observant, Damian vulnerable, little Jason throwing it all in a backpack to run. big jason pulling out of bruces hug and immediately coin flipping to a more violent and strong version of The Ick as he realizes what he's let bruce do. (comfort him.) the batarang scar prickles. he's half dissociated. Tim helps him escape further ahead so bruce isnt so close behind.

    dick is being dick again and jumping to conclusions, (and minimizing that bruce hit him multiple times,) tim doesnt know whats up but also does...jason is avoiding and fearful of bruce, and bruce knows theres worse to come.

    Tim putting pieces together about dicks avoidance of Tim asking if Bruce had hit him before, dick putting together Jason’s social awkwardness and how he HAS been reaching out this whole time, and baby Jay facing discrimination from a shit dad and being caretooken by the librarian Brianna. (Cutting and washing his hair after the incident.)

    Jason seeing himself as inherently dirty (Jason hating himself for wishing Brianna was his mom)

    the 4 months homeless on the streets. the kind older man in the convenience store. mickey, his dads friend, who offered him the job jacking tires. (the start of it all)

    mickey's house, with 4 other people in it. andie, the stoner who sees jason and is immediately at least a little on his side.

    Notes for myself so I don’t forget any plot: (if anybody looking through bookmarks does not want to be spoiled do not read)

    Yuji who gets sent back in time after being executed and is found in a field by suguru. Brought back. Enrolled in the school again. Watched over by suguru and later gojo.

    He slowly charms and breaks suguru out of his head and gives him reasons to smile genuinely again (and learn the difference between those and his fake ones). Geto follows him around with curses to keep an eye on him. Nanami and haibara are his friends. Yuu enthusiastically so and kento more quietly but no less intensely.

    (He wonders how suguru dies. How haibara dies. He wonders why he’s never heard of them.)

    Both geto and gojo are mad fucking protective over him though. and quietly hate this “Sensei” he keeps bringing up. Who was going to kill him. For his own good. Eeeeveryone wants to know who Sensei is. Just to Chat. Whoops.

    They know he’s a cursed object eater/vessel, but not of what. And Sukunas energy has only flared noticeably once, otherwise being eerily absent except for the presence of curse energy in yuji himself. (And his freakout upon being grabbed by the neck while sparring. And slipping up saying “you’d execute me for it” to gojo, then having to backtrack. Yea no ummm sensei told me uhh. You’d do it. Since you’re the strongest. (This is when gojo starts calling him yujin and absolutely joins get in the Protect Itadori Holy Shit What Happened To This Boy Coalition.) not an hour later yuji also calls him sensei by accident on the couch while they’re movie watching, and doesn’t even realize. Gojo doesn’t say anything. But he notices. (Yuuji wants to matchmake him and geto just a bit kinda. Geto comes back from a call with his mom (!!) and is much softer and less surly towards gojo and it surprises them. Yuji falls asleep cuddling them. Aw.)

    Yuuji has been at the school for over a year now, (brief time skip) and Geto and Gojo joke at each other over being “whipped” for him. He and nanami and haibara go on a mission that was misclassified and suguru feels his little watcher curse suddenly become absent. he freaks out and yells at yaga to tell him where, and yaga eventually does. Geto runs before yaga can stop him. Satoru is out on his own mission, but not for long
