Summary
He sat down at the desk again, the thoughts slowly curling on themselves in his mind. Why not? The story didn't have to be about him, he realized after a spark of inspiration flashed and then caught in his mind, like fire catching on the edge of paper before it slowly began to shrivel and then burst into flame.
It wouldn't be about him. Not at all. No one would know.
He straightened himself up, shaking with excitement and nerves, and pecked out the starting words on the screen.
This is a story of a man named Stanley.

Summary
They were changing. Inside this dollhouse, this prison, this purgatory; metaphors that never would or could have occurred to him the first time he found all his coworkers were gone and wondered what it could mean. He could feel it. Both of them had grown beyond the scripts, then beyond the scripts that only pretended to allow for that growth.
Of course, The Narrator would refuse to see it. The being didn’t even realize there were other presences that could alter his precious game. Getting him to acknowledge the changes neither of them could have predicted would be impossible.
And so through reset after reset, ending after ending, he held onto what he knew and dreamed of a way to do something about it.

Summary
The cube never changed, unlike the growing number of flexible architecture within this layer of the facility. It's output remained the same, a steady constant of warmth and reassurance. He found himself needing that the more he worked, the cube feeling like the only glimpse of sunlight in this cold, sterile place, the only source of camaraderie when he needed to sidle around the frigid, unfeeling forms of his co-workers, corpses swathed in lab coats that hung from their frames a little more loosely with each passing month, the stress of the brutal pace of the project wearing on them, shaving off pounds and thinning hair faster than normal.

Summary
It was her birthday today. She had forgotten, in the quiet intricacy of giving herself enough money to get out of the country and change her name and sever all ties with the place, no matter how much it felt like cutting off her own hand.
