“No post on Sundays” Uncle Vernon announced happily, “No damn letters today-”
Something came whizzing down the kitchen chimney as he spoke and caught him sharply on the back of the head. The next moment, thirty or forty letters came pelting out of the fireplace like bullets.
“That does it!” he snapped, his beady little eyes focused solely on Harry, “It’s you that they want. And they won’t stop coming after us until you’re… gone”.
Harry didn't like the sound of that.
“But Vernon, we can’t! You heard what that- that despicable old man told us!”
“Don’t worry, pet” Vernon said, his nasty grin triumphant, “I’ll leave him someplace so far away that those freaks will never trace him back to us. There’s an institute up north, for these- these hopeless cases and whatnot - St Brutus's Secure Centre for Boys. I’ll leave him there, and then we can get back to our nice, normal life”.Or, the one where Harry doesn't attend Hogwarts in first year but finds his way to the wizarding world anyway, and this changes everything.

Summary
Dying and coming back to life for a second time should have been more surprising. Harry Potter merely sighed in exasperation and moved on.
Death at thirty was not something he was entirely happy with, but he had lived a lot longer than he could have hoped for at fifteen years old. Waking up after was annoying, but in such a chaotic situation he could only roll with it.
Having a wizard with a whisper of Destiny about him wondering about Harry's existence in this wild new world was bad enough, but to these people he was considered a child. Nope, he was not going to be staying with them.
Harry Potter had not been a child in a very long time; he would not start acting like one now.
OR
Harry Potter crashes into the Company of Thorin Oakenshield in Goblin Town, finds out he’s now an elf-child, coming back to life after death is a fact of elf-life, Music equals Magic, and dark lords are a universal constant whenever and wherever magic is involved.

Summary
“And you, Evans? What are you doing after graduation?”
“Dunno,” Evans replied, staring up at the sky from where he was laying on the courtyard floor and impeding foot traffic like the menace he was. “Maybe I’ll dismantle the government. It could use a good spring cleaning. Might be fun.”
Everyone laughed like it was a joke, and Tom felt a part of him wither and die at the stupidity of his generation.
Harry Evans was, to those that met him, rather average. A brilliant student, definitely. Kind and dedicated, absolutely. Handsome, maybe. But otherwise unremarkable.
He slipped into the ranks of Hufflepuff without a whisper and would have remained a bland face in the background of Tom’s life—if not for the fact that something was quintessentially wrong with him.
Tom, the only person who seemed to see beneath the veneer of banality and recognise the dangerous cunning that lurked there, found himself facing an opponent he had no idea how to combat.
OR, how Tom Riddle went from dreaming of ruling Wizarding Britain to dreaming of punching Harry Evans in the fucking face.

Summary
Harry's sixth year ends with the Dark Lord's takeover of Britain. Harry gets to live, but why? And how come he can send pain to his servants? Realisation comes when he’s saved from an attack… by Voldemort himself.
Harry considers his own death to destroy the horcrux, but threats against his friends keep him in line. What he can’t figure out though, is why Snape seems so set on changing his grim state of mind.
~Gen, dystopian and plotty AU: a slow-burn mentorship between Harry and Voldemort, and between Harry and Snape. No main ships.

"But the Horcrux isn't really gone, is it?"Harry frowned. "What do you mean?" he yelled back across the distance.
Dumbledore turned his head to regard Harry. He appeared perplexed, dismayed even. Voldemort was watching the former headmaster with unholy glee. They had paused their dueling.
"Yes," the Dark Lord hissed. "You see? Your pathetic attempts are pointless. He will always be mine."
Harry reluctantly turned around. The wizards regarded him in silence.
"Harry," Dumbledore said softly, with a gentleness that hurt his ears. "You just spoke Parseltongue."
