When Link's father is sent on a mission to recover the stolen Majora's Mask from the Yiga Clan, the power of Majora's hexes sends the troop running back to the Castle — and leaving Link behind. Master Tarind of the Yiga Clan wants to know what makes this boy special, why he was able resist Majora's influence. In answering this question, Link ends up in the crosshairs of three deities, a demon, a dragon, and two quarreling women. What started as a simple quest soon morphs into a Hyrule-spanning adventure and a race against time. If Link ever makes it back to Castle Town, he's never going to be the same boy who followed his father into the mountains.

"—So…” Daruk coughed. Revali’s sharp gaze snapped over to him. "Turns out he’s the chosen hero of the legends.”
Revali sputtered into a stunned silence.
“Bullshit, that’s impossible!” His feathers rustled as he balked. “He was sent by the Demon King!”
“We know that, but— he has the mark of the goddess on his hand,” Urbosa snapped. “The rest of us saw it. If you don’t believe it, you can see for yourself.”
The Rito didn’t even deign to give the unconscious swordsman a glance.
“Hero or not, we’re not letting him off the hook just like that,” Revali’s voice climbed an octave. “He’s too dangerous— we saw what he’s capable of. We have to kill him while he’s still weakened!”
“We aren’t killing him,” Zelda asserted again. This time, she lifted her eyes. Her voice held a note of cautiousness, but it was still unshakeable.
“If we’re to even hope to defeat the Demon King, we need the hero on our side. We have to take him with us.”
[In which Link was raised as Ganon’s right hand man, but Zelda and the Champions snatch him away.]
