It starts when Dorian complains to Cullen about having lost his comb and Cullen gets him a replacement the next time he’s in Val Royeaux. It’s only polite Dorian returns the gesture, and the gift-giving that establishes between them is utterly harmless. No one needs to know that the gifts he wishes for, and the ones he buys, imply a traditional Tevinter courtship. That’s just his private enjoyment.
