Summary
There was once a place where pollution fell from the sky like snow, casting an aura of ashen wonder upon those who became infected by the deadly disease it carried. Almost no one would learn of the hush hushed controversy behind the industrial mishap, the wake of the madness and several murders kept surprisingly well under control. However, rust, as the disease has been called, is a tragedy likened to that of some of the worst flesh eating viruses, and it's impossible to keep entirely quiet.
Sabisuki is at the end of her life. Many things have been taken from her, most of these things, from her mind. But there is a certain someone who has always cared for her, lamenting her choices as a guardian while her adopted daughter's active imagination puts a tragic twist on the events of her life. Meanwhile, another sufferer of the disease is close by, and he isn't so thrilled about the circumstance they are under. He thought he was very clear. He told her to wait.

Summary
Haunted is a good word for it, he figures. The four-fold chambers of his heart are more haunted than any old mansion with doors and cabinets that slam shut on their own could ever hope to be. It’s a gentle pain, a wound that bleeds and oozes from time to time and never truly closes.
A pain he figures he can live with, eventually.

Lisa lets John’s arm drop into his lap and opts to cup his face with both her hands. She gently thumbs over his eyelids, brushing away any surviving tears and he leans into her touch. “I’m real, John. Do you believe me?”
He does. More than he’s ever believed in anything else before.
“I do.”
After everything, John and Lisa leave New Haven behind.
