On their second trip into Aeor, Caleb and Essek just wanted to end a long, tiring day by curling up in bed together. Maybe in another reality.
“Herr Shadowhand,” he intones as flat and long-sufferingly as possible while the curl of his mouth trembles traitorously, “I thought we agreed, no more arcane bullshit today.”
If Essek were currently capable of speech he’d have something endearingly bitchy to say about that, no doubt.

"Have you finished looking over that proof?" Essek nods to the page in front of Caleb.
"Ah, no. Not yet," his smile turns rueful, "forgive me. I was rather taken by the view."
The side of Essek's mouth twitches and then settles. Caleb almost had him there. "The view?"
"Ah, do not mind me," Caleb demurs, and ducks his head back down.

Caleb is struck with a thought– an image really– arriving fully-formed and without warning. The pink of his own thumbs, pressed firmly into lavender skin. Pointed towards a navel, towards each other, his hands would form an arch like that of a temple.
Essek would look so lovely in Caleb’s lap, held close and admired properly.
Three hundred and forty-four seconds.
Caleb has to get out of this hug right now. Essek is trying to say "goodbye, be safe, I will see you soon." Essek’s body is not trying to tell him anything.
