Nureyev was far from naive. Trust was a currency earned, not something freely given. But he would have thought Ransom would have earned at least a small amount by now. Yet here he stood, firmly on the wrong side of the walls of trust and respect that Buddy, Vespa and Jet had built around themselves. And that was fine. He didn’t need to be liked as long as the job was done.
