A raid's always a risk when the black market's in town. Easy enough to evade, with enough warning and a working ship - and you can get by with just a ship and some skill, really. Jim Kirk's only got one of those; not the one he needs, for the record. But in a market full of ships gearing up to get out, Jim knows he'll be able to find something to catch a ride on.

Summary
The one night stand Jim Kirk has with the Vulcan passing through Riverside is a welcome break from the monotony. It's good, very good, but so fucking weird Jim's sure he's never gonna forget it. He's not quite expecting to run into Spock again in San Francisco. A second one night stand turns into a weekend, turns into a lot of weekends, turns into Bones joking that he's living half his week at Spock's apartment.
But! But, and this is very important: they're not dating.
What also turns out to be important is Spock's job, which Jim never bothered getting the details of. Starfleet Officer and a bartender-slash-bouncer? That's fine. Starfleet Academy Instructor and cadet? ...Less fine.
