Jake settles himself down on the bench and when he looks up, his heart damn near stops because wow, now this was a great view of Quaritch.
The older man towered over him and Jake could see every plane of his abdomen from this angle.
Quaritch raises an eyebrow. “You have to grab the bar to start the set, corporal.”
Jake nods. “Yes, sir, sorry.”
Jake grabs the bar and starts his set, trying to think about anything but Quaritch or his other body undergoing surgery.

It was just Quaritch and Jake in the room.
Jake sits up in his bed, hair loose and framing his face.
He had that same stupid mix of little braids and flowing wavy hair that made him look young and beautiful, just the same as he had 16 years ago.
The same corporal who was twenty, in a wheelchair, and looked at Quaritch like he strung up the stars in the night sky.
Quaritch hates how his stomach tightens at the sight.

“I won’t tell them a thing,” Jake murmurs, running his fingers through Lo’ak’s braids. “I promise, baby. If you want to tell them, you can. It can be later or it can be never, no judgement.”
Lo’ak listens to his bearer’s heart beat.
He was scrunched up against Jake’s chest to have his ear pressed above his heart, being almost as tall as the omega himself now.
“You can tell mom and dad,” Lo’ak finally says. “I’ll tell everyone else. Just…not now.”
“Whenever you want, baby, I’m right here,” Jake whispers.
