“Do you want to go back to sleep?”
Garraty nodded, but his stomach had other plans. He leaned over the toilet, vomiting again. Dizzy didn’t care, only lifting her head, irritated at being disturbed. Pete began rubbing his back, whispering soothing words.
“Breathe, darling, breathe.”
“Did I wake you early?” he asked, wiping his mouth, feeling his shirt begin to stick to his back. He straightened, flushing the water, and glanced at him.
“Nightmare, and then I saw the bathroom light on,” he explained, taking the cat from his lap. McVries chuckled to himself at the animal's slight protests. He scooped her up in his arms, watching Ray get up and reach for the toothbrush by the sink to brush his teeth.Bookmarked by Clown (Cl0WnC0R3)

“Ray Garraty,” she introduces herself. “‘s good to meet you.”
“Petunia McVries,” her thumb brushes slowly across the back of Ray’s hand, tracing a path that has heat gathering in Ray's cheeks. “Call me Pete.”
“Pete,” Ray says. “Pete,” like a mantra, like an oath. “Why don’t you have a seat, Pete?”
She shuffles deeper into the booth so that Pete can slide in next to her, even as it makes red bloom splotchy across her cheeks. Pete huffs a laugh, and takes the hint, letting Ray pull her in.

Sardines. Some kind of hide-and-seek knockoff that Garraty had never heard of, and one he was pretty convinced Olson had made up on the spot. Only apparently he hadn’t, as Baker chimed into his defense.
Pete’s eyes met Garraty’s not a moment after. It was a wordless exchange of amused smiles, and maybe something else. There was always that unspoken something else between the two of them.
