(Apparently, Jacob was originally slated to be Mike's grandfather, which is pretty precious, so I wanted to write something sweet about Mikey and Mama & Papa Chilton interacting and Jacob being a Cool Grandpa... but it actually turned into this angsty, headcanon-y mess about Mike's birth, his parents, and perhaps why he ended up being one of Kane's lapdogs.)
