Closing the door behind him, Kal dropped Bruce carelessly on the wooden floor, like one might a sack of potatoes.
No instruction needed to be given. Bruce rearranged himself, folding his knees under him to settle at Kal’s feet, where he belonged.
“There you are,” Kal told him, smiling at him properly for the first time that day. “So much prettier like this.”
Kal reserved these words for the moments they were alone. In front of his parents and the people of his kingdom, he acted as though he believed he and Bruce were equals.
Here, in the privacy of their chambers, he showed the truth. And lord did Bruce love it.
