"Yes," he said, "I think you do." And despite what he said, Ilya felt Shane shiver beneath his hand. He leaned forward so he could whisper into Shane's ear. "Will you wear it for me?"

The man let out a small, “Hmm” before saying, “Well what if I give you this,” hands going to his pocket to get his wallet, where he pulled two $50 bills and held them out, “So you can do both.”
Shane choked as the red bill stared up at him, “Why the fuck would you give me that.” Shane said, flinching the second he did as Noah gasped next to him said, “Swear jar daddy.” in Japanese.
“Yeah yeah I know, I’m sorry Noah, Daddy shouldn’t swear.” he said looking down at his son before looking back up at the man who was smiling softly at the exchange.
“Because you are pretty. And because you should not have to choose, if you take this then you can do both and have some left. So take it.” The man said, answering Shane’s question and pushing the notes in Shane’s direction.
Or Ilya Rozanov, star captain of the Ottawa Centaurs, meets Shane Hollander and his son in the grocery store and falls in love immediately.

“This is a stupid dream,” Shane mutters, scrunching his eyes closed even harder to let in less light. “Why are you here?”
Rozanov hesitated, almost sounding startled when he spoke. “Is not a dream. I am here because I love you.”
Shane’s eyes do snap open at that. He can’t focus on Rozanov either, but he tries really hard. “What the fuck?” They did not have THAT kind of relationship. In fact, the last time he’d seen Rozanov, the man had fucked him silly then practically kicked him out of his hotel room without so much as a thank you or a kiss.
What the fuck was this love shit?
The man’s shoulders slump and he sits back in his chair. “Oh, Shane.” He sounds so disappointed. “The doctor said—I thought when you woke up again—”

They say most accidents happen at home. Shane has a catastrophic one in his parents' garage and loses 9 years of his memories. The last thing he can fully remember being in the elevator and almost sending several text messages after an evening with Rozanov in a hotel suite. All Shane knows is that Rozanov and his parents are in one place, and that's his biggest nightmare.

“You really wouldn’t mind? If I stayed here more often?” Shane asked, trying to stop the smile from breaking across his face.
Ilya smiled back. “Of course I don’t mind. I would love it if you stayed over more often. Maybe you will stay here tonight?”
Shane nodded and he went back to eating his dinner. He didn’t catch the grin forming on Ilya's face, the way his eyes glinted with triumph. He was moving in with the notion that Ilya was truly thinking about what would help Shane the most, not realising that the long term effects of it would be more catastrophic than he had ever imagined.
