Summary
You never think that something can happen to you until it does. Car wrecks, health issues, freak accidents, natural disasters – it’s easy to think these things exist in a vacuum, in some far away place only archived and accessible on the internet through shaky phone videos. Jihoon regrets the willful ignorance he’s chosen to live his life in. He’s always avoided anything that might trigger his ever-lingering anxiety – bad news, horror content, world events, texts ending with a period (or opening with 'we need to talk') – and it’s really, really coming back to bite him in the ass. If he’d paid even the littlest bit of attention, he might have had time to prepare, to stock up on food, water, find some type of protective weapon before being thrown into the exact type of hellscape he actively avoided when it only existed in media.
It started with the rain. It was the middle of spring, showers were to be expected. From light drizzles to heavy downpour, nothing seemed out of the ordinary…until the rain made contact with bare skin. It burned like acid, eating away at the flesh and sending poison coursing through the veins. Poison that targeted the mind, sending those affected into delirious, violent frenzies.
