Summary
In the world of Thirdlifia, the seasons are changed by the magic, which gets released when an emperor dies.
The emperors are people chosen by the throne itself. When an emperor retires or permanently dies, the throne shows the name of the next successor. They can't refuse to take the throne, because the moment they become the chosen one, they ARE the emperor. As the emperor, it's their duty to serve their people and lead them well.
The protectors are chosen by the emperors. It's usually someone who was close to the emperor before they took their throne. Their duty is to serve the emperor, officiate the corronation and after the first turn, to continue changing the seasons each year by perforning the ritual. They'll usually outlive the emperor.
This year, four new pairs take on the task of rulling the world.

“No, no-” Techno chokes out, heart slamming into his ribs. He’s going to die, he’s going to die here, he should’ve known, Phil was never human, he was never human at all-
“I should’ve told you earlier.” Phil smiles, kneeling down to Techno’s level. He’s not reaching out anymore, but he’s not leaving either. “Sorry again for the scare. That was a bit much, huh?”
