Summary
Steve Harrington develops Hanahaki sometime between 1983 and 1984.
At first it looks harmless enough: petals, blood, tight lungs and symptoms easy to dismiss. Then the years keep happening. Nancy leaves. The Russians happen. Jonathan leaves. Vecna happens. The world almost ends.
Years of things left unsaid, endings that never stayed ended, and the slow realization that surviving has less to do with being saved and more to do with letting yourself stay.Bookmarked by CultOfAdoration

Summary
Steve's jealousy, as much as he tried to hide it, strained their friendship. Jonathan had probably assumed it was because Steve's old feelings for Nancy hadn't changed, which made everything so much worse. Steve couldn't exactly walk up to him and say, "Hey, I just wanted to let you know I'm not looking to take your girlfriend from you. Why not? Oh, because I've realized I actually find you far more attractive! No hard feelings, then?" The tension between them had been building since Jonathan had come back from California, wearing those stupid cardigans that made Steve want to wrap his arms around him to see if they were as soft as they looked. He had deeper eye bags, a restless edge to his eyes that previously only showed itself in battle. Nowadays though, all it took to coax that side of him out was an argument, or a failed plan, and it was probably concerning how attractive Steve found it.
OR
Ever since he came back from California, Jonathan and Steve have been fighting. But it's not making Steve angry-- it turns him on.

Summary
Jonathan Alonzo Byers is going to kill himself on Saturday, November 12th, 1983. Or he might if he doesn’t spend the night in a jail cell. Because on top of everything else—his brother disappearing and turning up dead, his mother losing her god damn mind, Nancy convincing him his mother might have a point, some fucking portal in the woods opening up to another fucking dimension, Steve fucking Harrington calling him a screw up and a queer, at least two of his fingers feeling broken, and the handcuffs digging into his wrists during the uncomfortable ride in the backseat of a police car—he’s got a fucking boner.

Summary
Having lived his entire life in a small town obsessed with Christmas, Jonathan has grown to resent the holiday. It doesn't help that the influx of visiting tourists staying at the Byers Bed & Breakfast for the season makes it their busiest time of year. When Nancy Wheeler arrives feeling disappointed her boyfriend is stuck in New York for their vacation, Jonathan offers to keep her company while she does all the touristy stuff. It's only supposed to be a friendly favor, but the more time they spend together, the easier it is for Jonathan to fall for her. Is it so crazy to think Nancy would be happier with him than she is with her asshole big-city boyfriend who couldn't be bothered to spend Christmas with his girlfriend?
But then Steve Harrington finally shows up, and Jonathan realizes he might've been wrong. Not only does Steve not seem like the asshole Jonathan thought he was, but he and Nancy actually look happy together. Obviously, it's time for Jonathan to face the fact that his feelings are unrequited and move on.
It'd be easier to do, probably, if Steve and Nancy would stop inviting Jonathan along on their dates.
