Daniel just wants to get through The Vampire Lestat's documentary in one piece. The Vampires Lestat, Louis and Armand aren't making it any easier for him.

When they left Midgar, he had been feeling determined, focused, and maybe a little confident because he wasn’t doing this alone. The hours gave into days as they traveled; the wonderment his companions had of fully seeing and enjoying the world at large was almost contagious. Almost.
Today was just not a day for such infectious goodness.

There was a wildness in Riddle’s eyes, the whites of them shining in the dark chamber. His mouth parted, and then he grimaced, fingers twitching in Harry’s shirt.
… “I’m sure a part of you does care since you experienced discrimination in Slytherin, but do you know what I really think?” Harry said as he leaned in, “I think you want to make them pay, like you did in the orphanage. You want to make them fear you as revenge so that they don’t dare try to hurt you again. Cruelty in exchange for supremacy. The problem is that it doesn’t work. What makes you think you’d succeed when Grindelwald and Voldemort and an even longer history of dark lords have failed? Because you think you’re special?” He murmured, watching the boy startle. “You’ve always thought that, but I’m sorry to say, Riddle, every child dreams of that, especially orphans in lousy situations like ours. It’s our only escape.”/
Harry is that tricky edge of empathy and oblivious in some areas while also still able to be a viscous insightful boy when he’s cornered is A+

/Severus had already realised (around the time he did not turn Lupin in at once when the Decree had been passed) that he lost his better judgment around the time he regained a purpose and therefore a shred of a will to live. Apparently - it was only possible for him to have one of those at the time./
Snape coping with Voldemort winning by forcing Lupin to be his attic wife is the dodgy sort of unhinged decision making I expect from him. This is a lot lighter than I thought it would be so it’s good when I’m looking for that mood.

He’s refused other girls and put off asking Cho until the last minute, only to find she’s already taken. Ron, in a veela haze, asked Fleur to much public embarrassment. Now they’ve just been told that even Hermione and Ginny already have dates, leaving them with few options and very little time.

But then he thought about the way Harry’s hands curled into quiet fists whenever he was angry, or how his warm, dark skin contrasted with the cool, white sheets of their Hogwarts beds, or the sound of his voice when he was muttering a joke, just for Ron’s ears. And he remembered how he felt watching Harry stumble out of the maze, holding a dead boy. Like his body was being turned inside out, like he was swallowing down gravel, like he had flown so high he couldn’t breathe. That could have been him. What would Ron have done if it had been?

Ron started casting: spells to mend cloth and send thread twining together to mend long rips, spells to strengthen wood and shift joints back into place, spells to clear away the lingering smell of fire. Maybe it was domestic, and not very impressive or important -- not like Malfoy’s elaborate work on the staircases, or Hermione’s strengthening of the very walls. But Ron thought it mattered. The squashy sofas of Gryffindor’s common room had always been one of his favourite things about Hogwarts; it was one of the things that made the vast, half-empty medieval castle feel like home.

“I’ve become my mother,” Ron said with a groan, collapsing backwards into his armchair. “Worse. At least she only took nice orphans with good manners.”
“Potter does not have better manners than I do.”
“Yes he does, because he considers other people’s feelings, and you only consider them as target practice.”

I want Harry and Dumbledore’s wistful adoption era to last 10,000 more words but this is a well paced series. It took me a few chapters to trust the author but now I’ll follow wherever this madness goes. The only Draco/Harry sub plot I have ever tolerated because it really serves a purpose. Harry/Ron is so well done as a friendship, they just click so easily even others would drift apart. Also amazing creatures sub plots, Remus and all his relationships are developed really well.
