This is THE classic "Diary!Tom kidnaps Harry in the CoS" fic, and is a major inspiration for the fic I'm writing. I particularly loved the beginning, but the later parts were less interesting and it is now abandoned (I think). Definitely worth a read anyway.

I got into fandom via Death Note, and Nights is the first fic that I became obsessed with. I've read probably tens of thousands of fanfictions since, and I've never found anything more beautiful.
The first paragraph:
There is a riotous sea under his skin when Light touches him, and it never quite goes away no matter how much they keep touching, or fucking, or talking each other in circles with the same tired accusations and flimsy defenses. This is worth reading simply because it is so different from the other fics in this fandom. It features Tom Riddle and Harry Potter 100 years after the second Wizarding War ended in a draw and everyone has forgotten about them.
Excellent characterisation, and a really fun adventure story set on the continent.

THIS. I love Words Fail - there are many, many Harry goes back to Tom's era stories, but in my opinion, this one probably did it best. There is believable friendship! There are likeable OCs who I can tell apart from one another! There is sex (albeit fade-to-black)! There is ambiguously psychopathic Tom!
