“You’re alive,” Grace sobbed; heard her own voice echo back at her, his grunt inflaming her as her nails scraped his scalp and she clung to him, rubbing herself against his body like a touch-starved cat; “I’m alive,” Leon echoed her softly, and held her like something breakable, like glass; but she didn’t want that, she wanted—to feel—real—“I saved you,” she whispered into his ear, steadier now, tasting salt on her tongue, breathed it in, like a prayer: “but we’re still going to die down here."
Trapped in the dark and unable to control her panic, Grace spirals. Thankfully, a grateful and experienced Leon is there to help her through it.

Summary
in the wake of all they endured, leon figures he’d do the right thing and offer grace some much needed respite—if only momentary, and purely friendly. grace accepts, never anticipating that it would escalate further beyond that.
when it does, however—in the form of him sticking to his promise and offering to stay by her side… both grace and leon find that they are much more prepared than either of them could have ever conceived.
and it is subsequently, through the intimate odyssey of them getting to know one another, that they are able to forge a path of mutually-assured trust and hope—and ignite it into something truly beautiful.
