“Well, my name’s Michael Wheeler! But you can call me Mike for short.” Mike Wheeler. The boy’s heart jumped a bit. His first friend, Mike Wheeler. The boys giggled and kicked their feet on the swings (those would soon be their swings), earning a few glances from the other boys in their class. Neither of them noticed. Not yet, anyway.
“What’s your name?” Mike asked.
“William Byers.” The brown haired boy said shyly. “But my mom calls me Will.”

a s5 rewrite including flashbacks from s1, 2, 3, and 4 while Mike and Will figure out who they are and what they want to be.

Summary
Will and Lucas get jobs as lifeguards at the Hawkins Pool. Max refuses to come by (“I don’t want to see either of you up on that chair. It’s too much.”), and Mike is starting to think he should do the same. Even if Max isn’t physically there, the girls of Hawkins seem to know that Lucas is off-limits. Will, on the other hand… well, the girls won’t stop flirting with him, and Mike just knows it’s making him uncomfortable. It’s too hard to watch, honestly, because they can’t seem to take the hint and obviously Will can’t give them a real reason.
It’s the summer of ‘89, Mike is unemployed and pissed off, and everyone has to deal with the consequences.

Summary
After the events of season 4, close proximity forces Mike and Will to confront their feelings for one another. Secretly dating, the boys navigate how to love each other in a world that denies them the right to. Note- I will not be writing in depth homophobic scenes, as they serve no purpose in this story. They will be loved, accepted, and supported.

“Mike,” Will breathes.
Mike looks up, his lips hovering over Will’s collarbone. In Will’s eyes, he sees fire. Hunger. Desperation. He kisses Will’s collar, slow and soft. He wants the hunger to remain. He watches Will’s eyes close and hears a low hum of pleasure. Taking this cue, Mike shifts so that he is facing Will, his knees between Will’s legs. He kisses his shoulder, then neck. Mike looks at Will for permission to continue. Will’s eyes are still closed, head facing the stars.
“Love,” Mike whispers. “Look at me.”
Will’s brilliant green eyes open, hunger blazing. He kisses Will on the mouth, now, deep and wanting, hands on either side of his face, pulling Will toward him. Will accepts the kisses, accepts Mike’s wandering tongue, accepts his bite.
Take more. Take all of me. Take whatever you want. I’m yours.

Summary
From right above his head, Mike sees Bob’s mouth form a shocked little “Oh”, but all Mike can hear is the ringing in his ears. He gives up on controlling himself and wails into Bob’s shoulder.
Today, he watched his best friend forget everything that made him Will, stabbed him with a needle, saw countless dead and mauled bodies, and now the asshole responsible for trapping them here is telling him all of it was for nothing.
Or: Joyce and Hopper don't make it to Will's room in time. Now it's just Mike and Bob as they try to find there way out of the lab, and everything is about to go terribly, terribly wrong.
A season/series retelling diverging in S02E08 based on the idea that a possessed Will was meant to kill Bob, keeping the dark and horror tone of the first two seasons.
