Armand ignores the barb and smiles, the one that Daniel knows is real. “Am I your boyfriend, Daniel?”
“What, should I introduce you as my boss? Because that would go over real well. Hey, sweetie, I’ve got a great new full-time gig as the Devil’s fucking minion. Benefits are great, and you won’t get a better retirement deal—”
“You want them both to hate you.”
Daniel slaps Armand before he even realizes he's doing it. "Don't say shit like that. About my kids.”
Armand shakes his head and smiles, reaching up with his hands to pull Daniel’s face towards his own gently. His long fingers twine into Daniel’s curls easily. “Sorry,” he whispers, only lightly mockingly. “I’m quite selfish myself. And telling the truth is often a selfish fact.” Before Daniel can figure out what that string of bullshit means, Armand presses his lips against Daniel’s.Daniel wants to be more involved in his daughter's lives again. Armand can't leave well enough alone.

“I’m Armand,” the man says. He folds himself elegantly into the chair across from Daniel, with all the poise of a ballerina. “Thank you for agreeing to this.”
Daniel’s got absolutely no idea how to reply to that. The normal canned responses—my pleasure, no problem, you’re welcome—would probably make him sound like a pervert. Which he is not. If anyone’s a pervert in this room, it’s the hot guy specifically hiring an escort—sorry, heat cycle relief provider—Daniel’s age, instead of just jerking off for a few days. “It’s my job,” Daniel says at last, shrugging in a way he hopes is casual.

Daniel tossed his keys into a fancy glass bowl on the entry table, kicking off his shoes, “preventing my kids from being born doesn't exactly benefit me. Maybe try trading stocks in my name instead.” He paused, turning to look at Armand with a raised brow, “you're jealous.”
“I should have kept you to myself.”
“But you didn't,” Daniel said, “you have now and the rest of forever to make up for it.”
The notion of forever was something that stirred warmth in Armand's gut, not at all a statement intended to arouse him and yet the consideration of the rest of time and willingness to place Armand at his side for it was a permanence he still wasn't fully used to. It wasn't enough, he wanted Daniel all to himself, but it could be a start.
