Summary
Lan Zhan was not interested in sex or romantic relationships. He had watched with a dismissive glance as his classmates made fools of themselves and wasted a considerable amount of time and energy on various hook-ups and romantic entanglements.
Aside from the fact that his lack of sexual interest kept him laser focused on his school and research, Lan Zhan’s reason for it was based on something more fundamental. He did not enjoy the company of most people fully clothed, and he couldn’t really imagine that improving if they were naked.
Which was why he found himself shocked at the visceral image that slammed through his system of grabbing Wei Ying by his messy ponytail, forcing him to his knees, and fucking his mouth until he cried.

This is not unexpected. It is common knowledge that human eyes develop the ability to see a single color at this age—the color that represents their soulmate.
“Which one is it?” Lan Xichen asks, his round face alight with an eagerness Lan Wangji does not understand. “What color can you see?”
Lan Wangji looks around their home. Cloud Recesses is still very much the same as the night before his birthday. Whatever the color of his soulmate, it does not exist in abundance here.
Finally, Lan Wangji points. A bowl of fruit rests on the table in the center of the room.
“The apple,” he says. “The apple is red.”
(Soulmate au in which everyone is colorblind when separated from their soulmate with the exception of one color.)

How am I supposed to get food and water? I’m really hungry and thirsty. I haven’t eaten for an entire day! Have pity on this feeble man!” Wei Ying dramatically whined. The stranger’s eyebrows pinched before giving a jerky nod and turning towards the door. Just as the stranger was about to close the door, Wei Ying called out to him.
“Ah! Gege! It’s very rude of you not to tell me your name!” The stranger stood still for a moment, seeming to contemplate something.
“Lan Zhan,” And then he shut the door.

The newcomer blinked down at him as silver eyes met gold. Then the fox opened his mouth wide, chirped happily and licked Dragonji’s snout!

He saw both of them bending over to show respect from the periphery of his vision. Next thing he knew, he heard an “Mn’ coming from the second prince’s, Lan Wangji’s, direction. Wei Wuxian still faced towards the ground, expressing his humility but he could tell that Lan Wangji’s response was indifferent, with a tone of exasperation. Wei Wuxian was taken aback by that, his eyes widened. Lan Xichen seemed to have reacted the same way as Wei Wuxian. Lan Wangji then abruptly turned around and fled from the scene, heading towards the nearby door. His brother was left feeling all embarrassed and confused.
“ Don’t worry, Young master Wei, he is just shy…. And if I am being honest, I don’t think he is ready for this wedding yet. It was too sudden for him, please show understanding”“Ahh that’s okay,'' Wei Ying said, shrugging, while still looking at the door which Lan Wangji had previously used as his getaway. He indignantly thought “ I am not ready either, but I don’t act like an asshole to people because of that!” he was pouting by this point, why couldn’t his partner be as joyful as Lan Xichen, why did he have to marry this rude and indifferent person?

They were found as children, newborn and baby’s at that. Lan Zhan, the older of the two, was seen taking care of the newborn abandoned fox when they found them.
The caretakers thought that Lan Zhan would submit to his feral instincts and kill whoever, other than his mate, was in his territory, like any other throw-back alpha would.
They didn’t account for the fact that Lan Wangji might actually think of Wei Ying as his own mate at such a young age though.
Wei Ying only ever knew the name Lan Zhan when growing up. Did the dragon ever feel the same?
Or
Lan Zhan and Wei Ying are found in the forest and taken into a sanctuary for rare creatures. There, they grow up and face their own feelings.

For a brief moment, Lan Qiren somehow forgot that Wangji and his omega were married adults and in a perfectly reasonable stage of life to start trying for a family, and he worried that he and Xichen were going to have to console Wei Wuxian through the discovery of an unwanted or unplanned pregnancy.
