“You’re paying, got it?” She murmured. Half to herself, a quarter to the man. “Don’t think you can leave me with the bill.” For some reason he looked affronted.
“You think I would leave you a bill even in a dream?”
In a dream.
“Yes.”
He would. Silver haired strangers always did that. The pink haired girl was as certain as the ramen noodle rivers floating by, carrying little wooden boats with little wooden sailors rowing with oars made of toothpicks. She watched one wooden pirate captain get forced to walk the plank. His mutinous crew jeered at his back. Chanting. Cheering. Yet the wooden ball of the pirate captain’s head raised defiantly, even as his black origami captain’s hat is ripped off his head by his jeering first mate, and he stepped off the plank into the rushing water with a mocking salute—ever defiant, ever free—to his traitorous friends.
He shook his head. “Maa, have I really left you with so little faith in me?”
Or, where Sakura falls asleep and meets Kakashi night after night. After being friends for years and knowing nothing at all about each other, each dream is a chance to make up lost time.
