Utterly defeated by the weaver-spawn, Hornet, Lace awakens to find the only home she’s ever known drowned in silk. Whatever the spider did, it severed the connection between Lace and her mother-god, forcing her to face what remains of Pharloom with a mind burdened by new autonomy and emotions; burdens almost as heavy as a trail of riddles left behind by the red-cloaked warrior. Newly fragile and spiraling out of control, Lace is unable to resist the lure of an order, especially one given by the most interesting thing ever to happen to her.
