People usually resented being vastaya. Kayn couldn't blame them; being vastaya often meant getting a lot of attention, sometimes unwanted. It also meant standing out, being more susceptible to discrimination. Kayn had dealt with his fair share of bullies. It's partially why he could never hide who he was. Kayn had always felt his emotions so strongly and deeply, every time he would try to hide his ears and his tail, any heightened feelings would bring them right back with a cartoon-ish pop. So he kept them out. He got remarks, looks, and attention wherever he went.
There was just one person who seemed to do everything to ignore him.

The metallic door opens rather violently in front of me, and closes in the same fashion when I step into the room. He is there, hitting the wall with fervor. I try to get closer, but the sudden smell of burnt sugar punches me in my senses that I have no other option but to back out in defeat. The sickly, sugary sweet scent floods the room and drowns me in it with no chance to escape or swim up. Overwhelmed, I spoke up to him.
