Summary
The joined kingdoms of the Wisteria Coalition have been at war with Amaryllia for too many years to count. Too many battles have been fought and lost on both sides, with the fighting coming to a painful stalemate.
After the most recent deadlock between opposing armies, High King Kagaya is finally able to force Muzan to the negotiation table, where lands are ceded and weddings are arranged.
Kyojuro, eldest child of the royal Rengokus finds himself demoted from general of the Coalition's second largest army to sacrificial lamb. And to make matters worse, his betrothed is Prince Akaza, Muzan's favorite son, a bloodthirsty Amaryllian general, and Kyojuro's biggest rival on the battlefield. But Kyojuro was honor-bound to this union and he would perform his duty well, even if it is with gritted teeth... at least at first.
Perhaps his enemy of many years is not so awful after all.

It just so happens the only person in his general age range who's available is Rengoku Shinjurou.
A story about second opportunities in the most unlikely places, forging relationships, mending old ones, and what it means to be human.

Summary
Kids like lancer are meant to cry over spilled milk and scraped knees, not… this. No child Lancer's age should carry something so profoundly sad. Lancer should have both his parents, a family of castle-dwellers who care for him, a place to learn and play. At the very least, someone should be around to keep him safe. This isn't the way things were supposed to end up. Lancer is being failed at every turn, and Rouxls is struck with how complicit he’s been in the whole thing.
