    Summary

He’d been fishing for the last several minutes now, but Leona wasn’t biting. Jamil was running out of patience. He wasn’t just going to let Leona leave tonight and abandon Jamil to the torturous waiting and pining he’d endured for the past several months.

“Leona-senpai,” Jamil said, casting away all of his doubts. “If you’re not going to make a move, I will.”

Jamil glanced at Leona, who was staring at him with an intense expression that he couldn’t quite read. It left Jamil speechless. “…Whatever,” he muttered, turning away with a flutter of his coat. “Pay attention to where you’re flying next time.”

Jamil continued to watch his back as he walked back to the field, desperately confused by the entire encounter.

    What a dick, he thought.

“Awww, he must really care,” Kalim said.

    Summary

Leona wasn't conflict-avoidant. He was interaction-avoidant. He just wanted to sleep.

(Some would argue that he wasn't conflict-avoidant principally because he seemed to be the perpetrator of so many conflicts- these people were nothing more than pissy herbivores throwing a fit. Their opinions did not matter.)

Leona couldn't say the same for Jamil Viper.

Jamil Viper was professionally conflict-avoidant. He saw conflict coming at him from miles away and dodged with expert ease. He had eyes on the back of his head and the palms of his hands and the backs of his hands and on every little braid solely for the purpose of identifying conflict so he could escape it before it approached. He spoke so coldly, so measuredly, so mildly that to provoke conflict with him was to feel shame press in on you from directions you hadn't even known existed. He simply tasted conflict on the air and turned the other way round.

He was about two seconds away from socking Kalim in the face.

    Summary

Leona sighed, pushing himself off of the tree and turning to face Jamil. “There’s something I’ve been wanting to talk to you about for a while,” he said. “I shouldn’t have put it off for this long.”

Jamil swallowed thickly. “You’re breaking up with me,” he said.

Leona’s gaze shifted up from the ground, finally meeting Jamil’s.

    “Jamil,” he said.

    Summary

If you're being honest with yourself, he really isn't anything like Jamil at all.

They don't act the same, they don't sound the same, they barely even look the same. Like sure, you guess that's his face and his body and his skin and his hair, but it's being worn all wrong. Jamil has never looked that casual or relaxed, he’s never smiled quite that easily before. Jamil has never been this happy to see you and he’s never been this comfortable around you.

In hindsight it's obvious, and it makes your stomach flip with shame.

Of course he’s not Jamil. Jamil never, ever liked you this much.
