And it wouldn’t even be much of a scandal for such sentence to be uttered by the male specimen (they do, let’s admit so, judge, compare, laugh about the available gentlebred ladies of the ton), if not for the fact that the above mentioned lady, Penelope Feathering , was right behind the young man, when it was uttered in front of… well, basically the whole ton.
She was sure then and there: she will never marry and will forever be forced to stay with her mother.
However the one and only Viscount Anthony Bridgerton would be more than glad to have her as HIS wife instead.
