Summary
Spock has been assisting a new Vulcan colony in its agricultural efforts, but nothing will grow in the colony's desert. He seeks the advice of Dr. James Kirk, renowned botanist, at one of Kirk's lectures. But Spock's interest in Kirk quickly becomes personal, rather than professional.
Though the concept of "love at first sight" is deeply illogical, of course, Spock and Jim Kirk share an immediate connection, and it could change the trajectory of their lives.

Written for the Star Trek XI Kink Meme prompt: "Spock has been stuck alone on some alien planet that needs a Federation representative to be present for a long, stalled-out series of negotiations. I don't want any horrible trauma, just loneliness and frustration and culture-shock. The people on this planet are as far from Vulcan as possible -- everything is everyone's business, emotions are on display everywhere, everyone wants to hug everyone else all the time, etc. There is almost no vegetarian food suitable for a Vulcan diet. And Spock misses the Enterprise. Bonus points for him realizing that somehow the ship has become like a home/family for him, because I am a sucker for stuff like that."

An academy AU + Tarsus aftermath fic in which James T. Kirk ends up accidentally parentally bonded to an orphaned Vulcan child. When the father/daughter duo enroll in Star Fleet, hijinks ensue (mostly at the expense of Spock’s previously immaculate but quickly deteriorating self-control).

Summary
Two weeks have passed since the launch of the USS Enterprise-A, and Jim feels like a stranger on board his own ship. He can tell this is not his Enterprise, even though everything looks exactly the same. However, it's good to be back after spending the past six months stranded on a starbase in deep space, away from his chair and the stars.
It would have been manageable if the only different things had been the ship and a part of his crew. On top of his uneasiness and guilt in the aftermath of the Yorktown incident, Spock has been avoiding him and Jim can't for the life of him figure out why. Even though he has come to terms with his unrequited feelings for Spock long ago, he pines for his First Officer's company more than ever, and hopes he can somehow bring their friendship back to life.

It was a running joke on the Enterprise, that Captain Spock went through first officers like tribbles went through quadrotriticale. Spock found no humor in it, however. Six people had come and gone from his side over the year and a half he had been captain.
But a captain needed a first officer. And for now, at least, Spock needed Commander James Tiberius Kirk.
