“Always?” She gave him a scoff, trying to get control of the situation, control of her impulses, and control of her hummingbird heart, pulling him back to safer topics; the moments he hadn’t liked her.

If there was one thing that Penelope knew with her whole heart, it was that she was ruined for all other men. As she watched Colin’s mouth lave at the skin of a sticky, sweet peach she knew that she had never wanted to be a fruit so much in her life. Hell, she’d even accept her lot in life as an overripe citrus fruit if it meant that Colin would salivate for her as he currently was for a mere peach.
But, while Penelope’s heart was playing her for a fool, her head knew better.

“Hello?” he called out, before knocking on the tightly shut door. The space was so eerily quiet and empty, that for a moment he wondered if anyone had remembered that they were supposed to meet him here. “Erm…I’ve got an appointment? Longbottom? Here to see ah… the… well, I suppose the archivist?”
There was the sound of a chair scraping against the floor and several objects being moved around. Then the door opened just a fraction.
“You’re here about the Malfoy property records?” Asked a prim little voice from behind the barrier.
“I am.”
A pale, delicate hand slipped through the crack in the door and handed him a too-slim folder.
He took note of the slender fingers that held the folder before the hand disappeared once more; they ended in pearlescent pink-tipped nails.
Merlin, he really was a fool for pretty hands.
