Summary
Hakuri leaves behind his life in the city and moves out of his family home in the middle of the summer in 1993. He moves into a small town in the middle of nowhere, Arizona, and he’s greeted with the overwhelming summer heat and the lingering gazes of the people he’s chosen to live with. He lives in a small shitty apartment, works a dead end job as a grocery store stocker to make ends meet, and his only escape from the dry desert heat is the cool nights where the rushing Colorado River provides relief to the sweltering rays that beat down on him during the day. He’s never felt more alone and stressed, but he’s also never felt more free. Hakuri’s life is fine. Well, until his apartment complex is set on fire.
