Hiding from the scorching heat of summer in the shade of sycamore trees, boys and girls alike would point into the distance, daring their friends to venture to the edge of the foliage and mocking their hesitance, only to refuse to do so themselves when prompted. As adults, people chuckled to themselves from the sidelines as their children followed old traditions. They laughed at such childish follies and teased their own little ones for a fear they once knew well, dismissing the tales as just that—a dark, cruel fairy tail effectively used to keep the babes close to home. Even the few remaining elders that wholeheartedly surmised the tales as truth believed demons had all but vanished from the lands long ago.
Until the winter morning a farming family awoke to discover one of their cattle dead, whittled down to nothing but chunks of shredded flesh and bones. The display left behind was gut-wrenching. A bloody, grotesque mess.
Whatever caused destruction of this nature was not a product of the human realm.

The men in the room were understandably surprised when instead of just appearing in the council chamber, the person they summoned dropped from the ceiling with a torrent of water and debris.
As she landed, there was a crunch, despite her apparent efforts to roll into it. Nobody moved, even as she laid on the floor.
A single expletive rang out from someone. Followed by coughing. Slowly, she sat up, wincing a little as she moved her legs and started to take in her surroundings.
"Welcome to the-" Her eyes widened as she realised a little more of the situation.
"Fuuuuuuck…" She passed out, slumping sideways.
A bloom of red began to reveal itself against the white of her dress, spilling out onto the floor. And that was when the panic started.

You might have felt something more than empty acknowledgement that all of your efforts, your death, their sister’s death, Belphegor’s careful planning and Diavolo and his puppet’s tricks meant nothing.
