Summary
“I’ve been assuming it’s a familiar of some kind,” she admits. “It gets into places it shouldn’t be able to, and a normal bird wouldn’t have a reason to follow me anyway. But I don’t know for sure.”
Y’shtola’s eyes narrow. “A familiar?” she repeats. “Of whom, exactly?”
“Well,” she says, feeling slightly embarrassed, like a teacher’s caught her shirking a lesson. “Emet-Selch, I think.”

Summary
“Because of that head injury,” Sanson said, staring at the clouds they were passing, “I have…a hard time remembering things. Big details are fine but it’s little things. It’s like they slide right off my brain, no matter how hard I’m trying to hold on to them.”
Following a concussion during a Twin Adder mission, Sanson's short-term memory is not what it use to be. But he's figured out how to live with it – he keeps a journal to ensure he doesn't forget anything important.

Summary
“Don’t go dying out there,” Sanson said. His grip tightened on Guydelot’s shoulder. “I can’t—I can’t make this work without you. You know this. So stay alive.” He paused, then added, “Keep them safe.”
Guydelot’s nose wrinkled. He turned away. “I ain’t responsible for those kids. It’ll be hard enough keeping myself safe.”
“Then do your best,” Sanson replied, and released Guydelot’s shoulder. “For me.”
