The blood around her peels back in red plumes of smoke, the scene around her shifting. The taste of sour iron is replaced with ash, and Deirdre blinks hard through the smoke to get her bearings. She stands atop a living being, something moving, shifting, thinking. She looks out and sees Baldur’s Gate and the harbour in the distance below her, the city bathed in the red light of a smoke-choked sun.
“The Banite will bring you here.” Bhaal’s voice pierces her head. Deidre turns, Enver now standing beside her. A shudder passes through the beast beneath their feet, as a similar current sends a shiver down Deirdre’s spine. Now looking around, Deirdre can see the beast is encircled in a black, thorny ring. A diadem pulsing with red energy hovers behind them, and she can sense it anticipating her every thought.
