Mei chuckles, grabbing the lapels of her daughter’s tiger printed jacket and closing the zipper to keep her cozy. Her thumb traces the patches of bandaid on the five year old’s chin.
“I am not sad, Kaori. I just...this park holds a lot of memories for me and the person that I love.”
The five year old gives her mother her most toothy grin, hands tucked behind her back. “Will you tell me again?”
“Again?”
“Yep. I wanna hear about mommy again. Please, momma?”
“Well, it’s getting dark. Come on. “ Mei stands up, offering her daughter a hand. “I’ll tell you while we walk home.”
