Summary
Au: Clarice is desperate to escape the mistakes from her past. Together with her son, they are on the run with no where to go and no-one to turn to. What happens when they finally find someplace that they can feel safe, but with the one person she never expected to see again? Where mutants and humans already struggle to exist as one, what will she have to do to protect those she loves from the one intent on hunting her, without irrevocably damning herself in the process?

The anger swirls inside her again, the library, the furtive glance the ladies threw at Ace as he came across the street to her. "That I’m everything Lucy wasn’t.” She wants to spit it out, say all the things she’s thought of saying so that it’s a clean break. Tarnish how he sees her so he will leave, and she doesn’t have to end them. Nancy moves away from him, standing and hugging her arms tightly around herself as if her strength alone can hold her together. She couldn’t bear to see her favorite smile, the love in his eyes drift to something cold.
“That’s not who you are Nancy. Don’t say that.” The words sound like they could be angry, but they don’t sound that way when he says them. “Just because a small group of hypocritical sycophants want to tear you down. Don’t let them. I don’t care what they say and neither do your friends. Each and everyone of us have a past so don’t let them tear you down. Tear us down.”
