    As he approached the counter, the young man behind it looked up, and Freminet’s breath caught. Brown hair that fell just so, eyes the color of aged whiskey, warm and glistening under the harsh light. The nametag read Gaming, and for a moment, Freminet wondered about the story behind such an unusual name. He shook his head and pushed the thoughts aside. He wasn’t here to daydream; he had a task to finish.

     

    “Oh, I didn’t see you there… is this all?” Gaming asked, his voice warm, tinged with a casual friendliness that seemed out of place in the hard-edged world Freminet was so used to.

     

    “Yeah, that’s all…” Freminet responded, his voice softer than he intended, eyes darting briefly to the list in his hand. He slid it back into his pocket, fingers brushing against the cool edge of the paper.

     

    “It’s $16.78,” Gaming said, eyes crinkling into a smile. “Though you look cute, so I’ll make it $10.50.”
