Phainon doesn’t come home in time for dinner. At the same time, a suspicious white dog shows up at Mydei’s door. Surely these things are unrelated.

    Summary

“Deliverer, I have no issues with whatever literature you choose to indulge in.”

A confused furrow to his brow. Then his face slackened with realisation that rushed to his head as quick as the blood flushing his cheeks.

“I-it’s not—what are you trying to imply here? I am… my mind and my morals are pure! I have no need of such a thing I assure you I—“

“Then what excuse will you give me for that scroll hidden behind your back?”

While out on their usual morning visit to Marmoreal Marketplace, Mydei notices Phainon is lower on coin than usual and the answer as to why becomes obvious when he catches Phainon secretly purchasing an outrageously expensive scroll.

Why would a piece of parchment be so expensive? Why would Phainon want it so desperately? And why would he hide it from Mydei?

    Summary

There was only one person who could cook such a delicious meal. The very same only person who could enter and exit his home undetected when he refused to open it for anyone—because he had personally handed over the spare key.

    Mydei.

The man who would spite him with terrible food when his jokes grew as stale as the bread he must have left uncovered just for him, or his methods in their latest spar was as slimy as the fish gutted but raw and unscaled. Who could now recall the whole truth but still prepared such a thing with care for the person responsible for his every death.

Amphoreus has become a real planet forged from the memories accumulated over millions of years.

Every citizen is bestowed all the memories that are rightfully their own, so there’s no escaping the actions Phainon took to prolong the cycles until a true hero could arrive with the new dawn.

But when Phainon is unable to see his own worth and face the tomorrow everyone had longed for, there are plenty of people at his side willing to help open his eyes to the truth.

    Summary

There were lots of other things that made it difficult to imagine living anywhere else. Precious photos and memorabilia. His favourite snacks stocking the pantry and fridge. The plants he had affectionately named and nurtured.

The locking mechanism on the front doors.

He had permission to leave today, so the exterior door scanned the microchip in his choker and the red light flashed green with the whir of the locking system. It opened now and would open when he returned but if he attempted to leave again afterwards then the doors would remain locked.

When Mydeimos is a shining rockstar upon the stage, capturing the hearts of millions, someone has to protect him from the depraved ingrates that flock to him just the same.

It’s a role Phainon claims for himself, and Mydei always rewards him for a job well done.

    Summary

“But why are your wings exposed? Already needed elsewhere?”

    “I was merely preening them.”

Phainon blinked. “As in… grooming them?”

The same way Mydei brushed his hair or straightened his clothes. But his wings?

“What’s with that look? Surely you…” Mydei realised, so affronted yet resigned for it, “You never preened your wings.”

“Well they—they’re divine wings! Forged from the power of the Coreflames that inhabit my body. Why would they need preening?”

“Does that divine body of yours need no washing either?“

In the millions of cycles Phainon’s wings had sprouted and smouldered at his back, wing care had never occurred to him. They were simply there—nothing more and nothing less.

The same cannot be said for Mydei, who diligently cares for his body and is determined to instil the same practice into Phainon.
