Enjolras' breath came out ragged. The memory of the night was supposed to be the only thing to follow him. How was he to have known who that man really was? If news of his folly got out, neighboring kingdoms would scorn him. Weak. Unable to resist his carnal pleasures. How could he be expected to protect Francia if he allowed distraction?
If there had been any hint, any suspicion in his mind, he never would have accepted the man's offer, would have kept walking through the labyrinth of tents until he was back at Musain’s gates.

Enjolras is the devoted Steward of Francia, charged with maintaining the kingdom until its rightful bloodline returns. A clandestine encounter ends up being anything but simple when the other man, Grantaire, turns out to be a mage assigned to his court. Enjolras' self-denial and kingdom custom deny entanglements, but as time goes on and Francia faces the increasing threat of invasion, the two must discover who they are to each other, where duty ends, and trust begins.

“We are all struggling.” Combeferre said. “Joining together is one of the only ways that small papers such as ours have been able to survive.”
“We should not compromise on our ideology for sales.” Enjolras said, still defiant. He knew the facts as well as Combeferre did, but that did not mean he had to make the same choice they had.
“It would not be a compromise of ideology, only methodology,” Combeferre reasoned. His voice grew firmer, unyielding to Enjolras’s stubbornness. “It is the best option available to us, and we could do worse than including popular fiction as it is, indeed, popular.” Courfeyrac smothered a small laugh, ignoring Enjolras’s responding glare.
“That we could.” He said.
London, 1832: Enjolras is a political journalist, Grantaire is an illustrator. They help run a newspaper
