Laughing like this might be the thing that gets them through, Steve thinks. It’s like sitting around the warm stove in his tenement kitchen with Bucky and his ma, while they take turns to rile him up. It’s like sitting around a fire with Bucky, Dugan, Jones and the rest, trading one-liners that nobody back in the US would expect to hear from the mouth of Captain America. It’s the way their bond has solidified into something indestructible.

Back in New York, Bucky’s recovery is going well. Against all the odds Steve has the most important person in his life back. But how much of him has been lost along the way?
As they mooch around the farmer’s market and cook dinner together, Steve struggles to keep a handle on his own nostalgia, and walks the jagged line around Bucky’s fragile memories.

WAY BACK LAST YEAR, I saw an amazing piece of Stucky fanart which prompted this Evanstan pinefest to crawl out of my mind.
While filming Civil War, Sebastian overhears a conversation that prompts him to confront his feelings for his co-star. He's just not completely sure what those feelings mean.
THIS IS A REPOST. Somehow, thanks to an AO3 glitch, I managed to delete this whole story. I was absolutely distraught to lose all the kudos, bookmarks and precious comment thread discussions, as well as the pics and gifs and footnotes, and I'm not over it. I want to thank everyone who's ever been kind about this fic, your feedback meant the world to me and I remember who you all are!

Summary
After a dramatic incident in his late teens, Steve Buchanan ends up miles away from Brooklyn, working for global aid agency Shield International in London. He tries to lose himself in work to forget about everything he left behind, but ten years later he still hasn’t moved on very far, and he might even be starting to crack. Sometimes if feels like trying to do good in the world is a losing battle, and doesn't bring him any closer to seeing Bucky Barnes again.
On a relief mission to Haiti with his best friends Sam and Natasha, the different strands of his life come together to bring him back to Brooklyn, and back into the firing line of an organisation he thought he'd seen the back of. If Steve's learned anything from a decade of disasters, though, it's that love and happiness can find a way through the direst of circumstances.

Chapter 17: Bucky joins Steve in London, and they set about fitting together.
Their various issues continue to behave like those ghosts in Super Mario, which sneak up when you stop watching them.
