New York City, 1998.
This new guy’s been showing up to the bar where Gale works who insists on calling him Buck despite knowing his name. Gale supposes he should be grateful for the distraction of the patron’s crooked smile and obviously fake New York accent, especially considering all the strange happenings going on lately. He keeps missing his mom's calls, a moustachioed cop keeps tailing him around town, and a week ago, two Brits beat him up for no reason outside his apartment. To make matters worse, he’s been tasked with taking care of his neighbour’s destructive husky named Meatball for God knows how long.
Surely this handsome stranger is the least of his worries... right? -

Summary
So, John was supposedly a means to an end and nothing more. While he was pleased with Marge’s assertion that he would be comfortable and wouldn’t have to endure any attempts to pry any slivers of information from him about the Agency, John nevertheless couldn’t help but feel wary of the situation. She knew his name–or at least his code name–as well as his storied reputation. John had to admit that his ego was bolstered somewhat when she’d mentioned as much.
It was unfortunate though, that in her pursuit to regain what the Agency had taken from her, she’d decided to take him in front of Gale. There was no doubt in John’s mind that Gale would come to rescue him, and he didn’t envy the response Marge and her associates were surely to receive when he did.

Gale can’t look long, can’t maintain eye contact with that empty cavern of a hood for anything more than a second, or two. Something looks back out at him that he knows, from pure animal instinct, is not at all human. Or hasn’t been for a long time. It makes his ears ring, a pressure vibrating through his head that he fears allowing to grow too strong. He looks off to the left, at the thing’s shoulder, where the robe drapes, soft and gossamer and grey. Like ash-filled cobwebs.
Its neck cracks as it regards Gale silently.

“It’ll be fun,” Marge says to him over the phone as he’s unpacking another box in his tiny, studio apartment. “I’ve been to a few other classes, it’s a good environment.”
“It doesn’t sound like my sort of environment, Marge,” Gale says, picking up an astrophysics textbook that pushes the bounds of what a single-handed grip is capable of. It strains the tendons in his wrist as he tries not to drop it on the way to its new home in the built-in bookshelf. The edges of it are bloated, almost rubbery with how many times it’s been painted over in the same shade of white, a few spots chipped away to show rich brown wood underneath.
“Your sort of environment is on a hill with a telescope, with nobody around.”

The moment the stranger crossed the cabin’s threshold, the air changed. Something bitter and cold seeped deeply into Paddy’s bones, his skin tingling with the ghost of an electric shock, and as the stranger closed and latched the door behind him, Paddy got the distinct impression that he had just trapped himself in a tiger’s cage.
OR: A handsome stranger appears in Paddy's yard one evening, and Paddy unknowingly lets the Devil in.
