    Suddenly, Dan is overcome by a rush of déjà vu. He remembers this part. Phil’s hand presses lightly against the back of his head, careful but firm, nudging him slowly towards the middle. Across from him, Phil's other hand does the same to Dan’s younger self.

    He remembers feeling exactly the way his younger self looks: eyes almost wild, frightened by the exposure and the sheer disbelief of what he’s being asked, even as he lets himself be guided forwards. 

    Dan remembers what comes next, too. So he surges in and closes the distance between them, catching younger Dan’s mouth with his own, right there in front of Phil’s face.
