    "So." Her voice is as silky as ever, and for a moment, June can't believe it's her voice. As though she'd missed the memo about coincidentally-perfect fascimilies of childhood best friends being out and about today, and this just can't be the Rose Lalonde.

    But then her mouth curls into a smile, and there's nobody else in the world it could possibly be. Nothing short of a miracle could give anyone else a smile like that. "It looks like you've changed."

    "And it looks like you haven't," June manages to joke through a tightening throat, knowing she probably looks like she's seen a ghost. There's only a second of silence before the question of who will break the distance is answered, and Rose throws her arms around June's shoulders.

    "I missed you too."

    June Egbert and Rose Lalonde were the best of friends, but life tore them apart as children. Ten years later, they fall back into each other's lives and find themselves discovering just how much fonder absence has made their hearts grow.
