“Well… maybe.” The brunette floundered around for a response for a moment longer, the lavender-haired girl watching him squirm under her chilling gaze, before his mouth finally parted. “But… isn’t that a little too… direct?”
As the words escaped his lips, Kyoko’s brows furrowed—a grimace finding its way onto her face in a display of rare and genuine emotion from her.
She had turned to face Makoto rather quickly, catching the boy off guard. Her expression had shifted back to a more neutral display. Before she could even process her own words, they had already been spoken rather quickly.
“Do you expect me to hesitate or fumble for something to say?” She replied flatly, expression evenly maintained—save for the slight frown on her lips. “You’re so high maintenance…”
It wasn’t the kindest response, but it shouldn’t be enough to change much…
Chapter 4, but Makoto and Kyoko are a bit closer—and words hurt.

Her hand shifted against the sheath of her blade, tracing a finger against its material as she struggled to make eye contact.
“…G.O. S.C.” Ryōshū responded bluntly, even by her own standards.
He looked at her and the surrounding darkness, then at the space between them.
It was only at that moment that he noticed how still she had been, how her shoulders had remained locked in place, how she had not made any move to stand up or exit, even after realizing it was him.
As if the flow of time was frozen for her, as she basked within the closet’s darkness.

They had not meant to linger in the corridor.
The Nursefather had stopped mid-step, hand tightening around her sleeve as though to anchor herself to the present. Ren had recognized the signs immediately—the slight tilt of her head, the delay before her breath caught up to her body.
Another lapse.
He turned to her, ready to ask if she required rest, when her foot slipped against the wooden floorboard. Not a full stumble—just enough that he reached out on instinct, catching her by the sleeve before she could lose her balance.
His fingers brushed against the edge of her veil—before quickly pulling away when he realized what he was doing.
The clip at her temple, already loosened from earlier skirmishes, snapped free with a soft, almost harmless sound. The fabric lifted, caught by the draft that swept through the open stairwell, drifting upward like a pale petal torn from its stem.
Ren froze.
He had never seen her face uncovered—not fully.

Columbina smiled, her eyes never opening.
“…A haunting ghost that won’t leave me to my own peace,” Sandrone added quietly.
There was a laugh, a faint and airy sound that seemed to flutter against the cold walls of the workshop.
“Haunting, yes…” she uttered absentmindedly, the familiarity of it sitting comfortably on her tongue.--------------------------------------------------------------
Columbina cannot help but ponder the memories that she shares with one of her former coworkers.
Does she still continue to haunt her thoughts?... Or, perhaps it is the Marionette herself that truly haunts Colubmina's waking hours.
