Summary
Astarion doesn't want sex, that much he knows. But he wants to want it, and he doesn't understand why he doesn't with Phaere. She's different, after all. Has always been. When he expresses this to her, Phaere broaches a new concept: intimate touch without sex. While hesitant at first, Astarion trusts her, and comes to find out that true intimacy was exactly what he was missing, all along.
Chapter Two: Halsin brings his wisdom to the table.
“But what if I want to?” he interjected, speaking a little too quickly and a little too loud, trying to get it out before he lost his nerve.
Phaere simply looked at him for a very long time. “…do you want to?” she finally asked, her voice low.
Yes, he wanted to say. And Gods, he wanted to want it. To want her. But the words wouldn’t come, not when they weren’t true.
And he’d already told her he’d never lie to her again.
“…I want to do what you want,” he said lamely instead.
“That’s not what I asked.”
“Phaere-“
“Astarion, tell me the truth. Do you want this?”
He felt very, very small. He couldn’t meet her eyes, casting his gaze down to the water instead. “No.”
