Summary
Sir Nancy had long since accepted her fate. For the rest of her life, she was set to serve by Prince Steve’s side, sworn as his loyal knight. Her desires must be set aside; her duty and honor always taking first place.
Prince Steve knows his place in this world. His days of freedom are over, his future a bargaining chip for political power. All he can do is hope that he can find peace between himself and the woman he is being forced to marry.
But the Kingdom of Hawkins isn’t what it seems. Something dark lies beneath its dusty surface, and when Nancy discovers that Steve’s betrothed has taken it upon herself to investigate a strange willow deep in the forest, it is simply her duty as Steve’s knight to ensure that her future queen isn’t harmed.
Meanwhile, Steve has decided that the way to have a happy life is to make peace with his betrothed’s brothers, soon finding that charming the eldest prince will take nothing short of a miracle. And when he starts paying closer attention to the odd behavior of the youngest, he discovers that nothing in Hawkins is as simple as he thought.

Nursing his minor wound and wounded pride, Eddie closely watched the Hare face off against his next opponent, using a great sword to fend off her twinned hammers. Now that he knew what to look for, Eddie saw a hint of his prior evening’s companion in the Hare’s movements. Despite the heaviness of his weapon, the Hare clearly had extensive training and knowledge in wielding it. Twirling the sword around, up, and over his body, he was able to control the pace of battle masterfully.
Much like when playing at chess, he took daring moves that nearly ended the match in his opponent’s favor.
He lifted the sword above his head, leaving his body wide open.

Once upon a time, the king and queen of a faraway kingdom struck a bargain with a witch in order to gain the child and heir they coveted. But the bargain came with a price: their child would never truly be loved by another, unless they could be seen and accepted as they are. Prince Stephen, though gifted in ways other than book-smarts, was not the child his parents wanted. Unable to see past their own expectations for him, the prince grew up unloved. The kingdom considers him only an idiotic pleasure-seeker, one who cannot hold a candle to his brilliant parents. In order to find a worthy inheritor to their throne, the monarchs announce a contest for the prince’s hand. Three tasks shall be asked of those who enter: one of intelligence, one of strength, and one of bravery.
Eddie, a bard living with his day-laborer uncle, is blind to his magical heritage. He has little time for the comings and goings of the secretive nobility, who cloak their bodies in robes and hide their faces behind masks. A chance encounter with the prince causes Eddie to discover he is not at all the vapid fool everyone takes him for. The contest will provide a chance for both of them to change their futures.

Steve's mind is carefully blank. It has been from the moment his father walked him to one of the castle’s balconies, the one that oversaw his home kingdom in its entirety, and said the word betrothal. He had suppressed every single thing, every emotion and feeling and conviction that had risen inside of him that very moment, and has continued to suppress them, and he will continue well after he is officially wed tonight—most likely until he takes his final breath.

She’s everything and yet…” there’s a pause, the next words about to unveil a lamentable truth, one that could no longer be ignored. He takes a breath before meeting his eyes, “And yet, I’m not in love with her. She’s everything, but she’s not you.”
“Prince.” The jester starts with a sharp breath, his hand reaching for his arm to squeeze.
The prince shakes his head, “I cannot find my way to her as I have found my way to you. I simply cannot. And if I were to share a throne it would have to be with you. I want you to know, Eddie, if I were to have it my way...it would be you. You who I’d reign with.”

Prince Eddie Munson vowed to protect his kingdom's Great Secret at all costs. But when a beautiful but oh so broken omega is dragged into the Great Hall for trial, he's finding it rather difficult to stay objective...and his instincts under control.
