Summary
“You’re leaving tonight?” Sakura whined, unable to hide her disappointment and sadness. It had been so long since she’d seen him last, and she didn’t know how long it would be until the next time. Would she be thirty years old then?
“Mm,” Sasuke responded, nearly continuing his stride into the village as Sakura hung her head down in defeat, but he unexpectedly stopped when they were parallel. “Sakura.”
Sakura perked her head up, eager to receive more of that voice. “Yeah?”
Sasuke wasn’t looking at her, but she knew well of her position in his focused peripherals. His every speck of attention was devoted solely to her in this moment. “I have to return to Orochimaru’s old hideout for something after this. You know...the one you found me in…it’s relatively close by,” he began, seeming unable or at least unwilling to go on.
“And…” Sakura prompted, certain something else would follow that declaration.
Sasuke said nothing for five extremely heavy seconds, and when his searing eyes slid over to trap her own, her entire body froze, the heaviness of their gazes quickly becoming unbearable. Then he said it. “I want you to come with me.”
